Nacho
and Lolita
Once,
when the two Californias ran alta y baja, high and low along
the
sea of the Pacific, there lived a rare and majestic bird named Nacho,
the only pitacoche for thousands of miles and hundreds of
years. He was proud of his brilliant feathers and his haunting songs,
but what good were his treasures with no other bird to share them?
Then the swallows came to nest, and Nacho met Lolita. Could two such
different birds find lasting happiness together? And what will happen
to Nacho and Lolita when the swallows migrate back to South America?
This tender story, delicately illustrated in rich detail by Claudia
Rueda, and written by Pam Muñoz Ryan, reveals that any difference
can be overcome with love.
